Current, Former Wrestlers Implicated in Steroid Controversey
Sports Illustrated has dropped names in a big way with acqusations implicating many current and former WWE stars as “patients” and possible users of steriods and other illegal growth aids.
The accused include Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Gregory Helms, Edge, and Randy Orton. These are all very big names in WWE to this day with Angle one of the top wrestlers in TNA.
Most of the accusations stem from 2004 meaning they came before the WWE wellness policy (which has been used recently) was in effect. SI recieved an email regarding the policy and here is what it read:
The WWE policy prohibits the use of performance-enhancing drugs, as well as other prescription drugs which can be abused, if taken for other than a legitimate medical purpose pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed and treating physician. For purposes of WWE’s policy, prescriptions obtained over the Internet and/or from suppliers of prescription drugs from the Internet are not considered to have been given for a legitimate medical purpose.
This news is pretty big and will likely include more names before it’s done but right now it appears WWE won’t be taking action against the wrestlers because they occurred before the policy was in place.
What do you think? Should WWE punish the wrestlers even though there was no policy or should they let it slide creating the feeling that steroids are OK in professional wrestling?
